I have a 125g tank with 4-PL 28Watt 5000K Quads and 8-PL 9W Actinic 03 lamps. I forget what the equivalent wattage is but this arrangement lights the tank extremely well. They run cooler than VHO's and supposedly do not loose their lumen output as fast. (I can not prove this either way) I have been very pleased with these lamps. They are also very energy efficient. I believe the 148 watts I have is equivalent to about 400+ watts of light output. I have a large mushroom colony, and elegance coral and some zooanthis. My rock is covered with purple coralline and the tank is doing well. You may want to contact Perry Tishgart at Champion about the PL lamps. He sells the Sea Star fixture which comes in many sizes. Colnes 75333,1406 Bob, Pardon my ignorance, but I'm new to reef's and want to do it right the first time. What are PL's? Is that fluorescent lights? I don't think I've seen any "super white" bulbs yet. Could you give me a brand name? I'm in Savannah, GA on business and went to a local shop today and saw a beautiful reef tank lit with 8 standard fluorescent. Bulbs were a mix of Actinic blue, Actinic white and tritons. Been up and running for 5 years and was great although a magnet algae scraper was on the front glass and the owner said he uses it every 3 days or so. Nevertheless, the rest of the tank had only coraline algae and was very nice. I must give credit to Mark at Animal haus in Savannah. Very nice store. I'll be home tomorrow and will be putting LR in my tank wednesday. I appreciate all the help I've received here and I'm sure I will be asking for more! Thanks, Gil
